Decide if the Lara Jean series is right for you with this practical buying guide covering themes, reading order, and format options.
Quick answer
If you loved the first two books in the To All the Boys series, Always and Forever, Lara Jean is a satisfying conclusion that focuses on senior year decisions and family changes. This guide helps you decide whether to buy the paperback or audiobook format.
Why this book matters for series readers
Always and Forever, Lara Jean wraps up Lara Jean's high school journey with real emotional weight. The story covers her senior year, her father's wedding, and her evolving relationship with Peter. It's less about new romance and more about growing up and making tough choices.
If you are new to Jenny Han's books, start with To All the Boys I've Loved Before. This third book assumes you know the characters and their history. Jumping in here will spoil major plot points from the earlier novels.
Format trade-offs: paperback vs. audiobook
The paperback edition is affordable at USD 12.59 (compared to the catalog price of USD 17.99). It's a lightweight, portable option for reading at home or on the go. The audiobook version costs USD 22.99 and is ideal for listeners who enjoy multitasking or prefer a narrated experience.
Neither format includes bonus content or illustrations. If you value a consistent shelf set, the paperback matches the earlier books in the series. The audiobook is a good choice if you commute or want to share the story with younger listeners during car rides.
How to choose your format
- You want the cheapest option: Buy the paperback at USD 12.59. It's the same story without the extra cost.
- You prefer listening over reading: Choose the audiobook at USD 22.99. It's great for long drives or relaxing without holding a book. Check if your library offers the audiobook for free before purchasing.
- You are new to the series: Start with To All the Boys I've Loved Before (book 1) before buying this one. You'll enjoy the story much more with full context. Consider buying the box set if you plan to read all three books.
