Lower spine ends and corners a bit rubbed, upper spine end and corners less so, light rubbing to gilt on top edge, else a remarkably clean, bright copy in original color pictorial dust jacket (spine ends and corners chipped, soiling and discoloration across front and rear panels, spine sunned, previous owner’s name in pen above title). Scarce in dust jacket.

First Abbott-illustrated edition. With seven charming color plates by the illustrator, portrait painter and scenic designer Elenore Plaisted Abbott, this is a lovely edition of Carroll’s two stories of Wonderland. Abbott’s lush paintings are clearly influenced by the Tenniel line art that accompanies the text, making this a wonderfully cohesive edition of the Carroll classics. An amazingly beautiful copy with the cover gilt still sparkling and the cover illustration untouched by wear.
